A Draft of a Video Script
So this one got too long to do I think and it meandered, but there’s some interesting thoughts in here. Time for a more focused draft. Enjoy the rough draft.
It is not easy being a boy. It is not is especially not easy, if you’re not even a real boy, as displayed above.
Now if you’re familiar with my content I’m sure you understand that I also don’t think it’s easy to be a girl. But I can’t speak with much authority on what it’s like to be a girl. I’ve never been one, and I have no plans on changing that. I do however, make a point to try and listen whenever someone shares with me what it was like for them to be a girl.
Some of the only people in Canada, who still support Pierre with the penile appeal, are younger men. Ironically while conventional wisdom suggests that people typically tend to get more conservative as they age and acquire more wealth, we’re actually seeing less support among older adult men for the conservatives, probably because a lot of them would really like if their children and grandchildren could move out of their basements… or spare rooms.
I remember going off to college, and one of the classes that all of the interesting people told me that I needed to take was Introduction to Sociology. At the time, I didn’t know what sociology was until someone finally said, it’s like how in psychology you study how people think and how the mind works, sociology is like that but instead you’re studying how groups of minds work together, and how different factors will influence how groups of people think.
And that sounded interesting. So I signed up. Now, at the college I went to was a Bible College, but in some ways, it was a bit of a naughty Bible College. You’d have rocks hurled at you by most if you suggested it was liberal. But this was the 2000s, so conservatives were still allowed to learn things and have academic rigour back then. And to their credit, the school had a diverse range of professors. But I was still shocked to hear a sweet older Mennonite woman matter of factly state amongst a list of facts that oh let’s see how do I say this on TIktok…incidents where other adults have to be called because mommy and daddy can’t work things out peacefully, correlated to homes where people practiced conservative religion.
I remember thinking she must mean other conservative religions, not mine. But somebody else asked that and she said no, that includes conservative Christian homes.
And then she carried on.
I was exposed to a lot of things that year. I remember in my New Testament class hearing the professor talk about how in other cultures it’s totally normal for boys who are friends to hold hands in public as they walk down the street, it’s normal to hug, even kiss and that’s just seen as normal healthy affection. Fun fact, just having each new class hear someone say that, resulted in some absolute cuddle fiends in dorm. Not me, I craved human touch, but I didn’t want to make any girls feel uncomfortable, and I was terrified of how one of my male classmates might react after the fact if the truth about me ever escaped.
The professor also talked about how in Western society, men are discouraged from touching each other, and the only acceptable times for us to be touched especially during our developing years by other men, are either during times of violence, or sports. Puts all those times you’ve heard men talk about the importance of a strong handshake in a new light.
Though I will say that a close friend of mine and I did have a few times where one of us would just put their arm around the other and just relax. Now if you’re a woman listening you may be thinking that sounds a little weird. Because most women don’t ever worry about offering physical affection. And that’s not because women who do inappropriate things don’t exist. But society doesn’t view female touch as violent. That’s one reason why TERFs spend so much effort trying to exclude trans women from shelters. Because if their touch isn’t dangerous, they might really be women. Also if you for whatever reason refuse their gender, then it is imperative for TERFs that their touch is violent, because then maybe not all men are dangerous. And that is a stereotype that must not be examined.
Many, many young men are touch starved. And that’s not the only reason obviously. But if you go back to the reasons why they’re touch starved, you start to see why they might be susceptible to aggrieved word salad.
The news lately have fallen in love with this term, loneliness epidemic. It’s often a way to dog whistle to any anti-maskers. Because the anti-vax movement and in general the anti-know-anything-about-everything crowd all of a sudden really started caring about community, during a time when close contact was less safe than ever. It’s also worth noting that the donor class never wants to every risk having another time period where employees are able to stay home from work. If management doesn’t have workers to observe and feel powerful when looking over, how will they sustain an erection?
The thing is, young men have been lonely for a long time. And to be clear, so have young women. But women have a number of biological reasons why they need to seek out other women, and get advice on how to be a woman, and how to handle womanly things. All of the things.
Men… most of the things that happen to you exclusively as a man, older men do not want to talk to you about. You may have heard about some of these things, but if you think about it, comedy. Comedy is the only time that you will ever hear anyone talk about the horror of having your Nethers betrayed at an inopportune time. Maybe you have a good health teacher but who even pays attention in health class. Boys do get told that nobody should typically be seeing what’s down there in most contexts. But nobody tells you that sometimes as you go through puberty it gets a mind of its own, and the bell might have just rung for you to go to the next class.
Most boys will probably figure out that they can put something in front of them while they walk, and most people are not paying much attention to them. Now, Jr. High stiff muscles are not the sole reason why young men may be skewing conservative now. But it’s part of a broader set of experiences that young men find themselves in, and everyone expects them to just figure it out.
Talking to people you find attractive. I can not tell you how much pressure boys are under when it comes to the boingada boinges. Their bodies go crazy as they hit puberty. It’s like a switch goes off, and at least for the straight boys a lady in a bathing suit in a picture goes from, that’s an interesting design but it doesn’t look comfortable too, I need to carry a book in front of me for the next little while. The funny part is, boys don’t even know what they like. Society tells them what to like. If you look back through art history, you often see women who are depicted as desirable and by today’s standards, all those renaissance art women, they would not do well on Instagram. Do you know why that happened? Well, the fashion industry more and more started telling women what was beautiful, what was aspirational. Who was designing women’s clothes? Gay dudes.
If you’ve ever noticed, it’s pretty socially acceptable for women of my generation to slip into conversation that they think they might have ended up with a woman, if they’d met the right one. Like… literally it’s easier for me to list off all the married women who haven’t said that to me, than the ones who have. But the fashion industry, as things like photography, high-quality printing, and now social media took hold more and more. Young boys to this day are still conditioned to see a very thin, lean, adolescent boy-like frame as the epitome of feminine desirability.
Now I will say, that over the last however many years, we have seen more of a swing in some demographics back to seeing curvy women with childbearing hips as desirable. But if anything these days we’re more and more seeing boys not to just see women who don’t look like they’ve been photoshopped as unattractive. But social media algorithms that amplify content that you just can’t look away from, are encouraging people to believe that fundamentally non-human traits are what should really get your motor running.
It’s funny, politicians are quick to suggest that spicy content is ruining the minds of younger people. But short of surgery, it’s still difficult to make truly visually non-human video content. But things like Instagram have been making young girls think they should feel bad for looking human, and it convinces boys through a constant feedback loops that desirable women have hair that takes half an hour to prepare, and they have no parts of their bodies that create a fold. Ironically I think this also might create shame in them toward women that instinctively they are attracted to, but in terms of world view they’re told are not the status symbol they ought to be achieving.
Wow, this is getting long, I think I’m just going to post it on the website and try and narrow this down a bit.
